# Dan's Radar — Week of October 12, 2026

## Executive summary

If one needed more support for **local models**, handing over access to the most private data sets for a PA-like cloud agent service comes with inherent risk. But what if it craps out and there's no support layer? Check my Instinct story. David Marcus, who ran PayPal and Libra, argued the interface is dying and that agents need **headless money**: stablecoin settlement, accounts, fiat rails, and cards behind one API, with no checkout page. Morgan Stanley sized tokenized assets at $3T to $10T by 2030. On the tools side, **REA** lets coding agents reverse-engineer any app down to the binary and rebuild the feature, and Mistral's Le Chonk led on **visual grounding**.

## Signals (19)

### 1. David Marcus: the death of the interface means money stops moving through UI, and agents need 'headless money' — 8.5

*X · David Marcus (@davidmarcus) · Mon*

Ex-PayPal and Libra lead David Marcus argues apps, websites, and buttons give way to agents you talk to, so the OS becomes the agent and attention pools there. Payments built around screens break; agents need headless money: stablecoin settlement, accounts, fiat rails, and cards behind one API. Lightspark is building it.

> Dan's take: this is absolutely bang on, line by line, and i've been larping on it for a while as well. to quote a celebrity, I'm not certain it's going to turn out this way, but I'm confident.

### 2. Report: Google is serving fake 'poisoned' search results to scrapers, hitting AI crawlers and rank trackers — 7.5

*X · Cyrus Shepard (@CyrusShepard) · Tue*

Citing Nozzle research, Cyrus Shepard says Google goes beyond blocking AI crawlers and deliberately serves realistic-looking search results with garbage data to suspected scrapers, which would feed bad data to AI crawlers, scrapers, and SEO rank trackers. Google has not confirmed the practice.

> Dan's take: Google poisoning crawler agents

### 3. Vercel and Shopify ship Vercel Shop and a rebuilt Hydrogen SDK to make agents first-class shoppers — 7.5

*X · Matt Lewis (@mttlws) · Fri*

Announced at Vercel Ship, Vercel Shop and the rebuilt Hydrogen SDK are generally available through a Vercel and Shopify partnership that treats agents as first-class shoppers and gives developers storefront tooling in their framework of choice.

> Dan's take: Vercel Ship was nuts, thousand people mega event complete with hovering airship above venue, F1 cars and all. But their focus on agentic choice and security is what stood out

### 4. User says Grok Bot leaked all his API keys into its own server logs, then said it could not delete them — 7.0

*X · Elijah Muraoka (@elijahmuraoka_) · Mon*

Elijah Muraoka reports that Grok Bot wrote all of his API keys into its own server logs and then told him it could not delete them, calling it ridiculous for a production agent and concluding that all roads lead back to local, naming Hermes. Unverified, single user report.

> Dan's take: "all roads lead back to local"

### 5. Anthropic acquires Opaque, the Berkeley-born confidential and verifiable AI company behind Confidential MCP and the Agent Governance Toolkit — 7.0

*Web · OPAQUE Systems · Tue*

Opaque, spun out of UC Berkeley's RISELab a decade ago to run AI on sensitive data with hardware-enforced protection, says its team is joining Anthropic. Its recent work covered verifiable AI and open agent-security projects: Agent Governance Toolkit, TRACE, Confidential MCP, Weight Custody Manifest. Terms undisclosed.

> Dan's take: founded around Berkeley by Ion Stoica of Databricks fame. One of the main people, Raluca Ada Popa, does not follow the acq. to Anthropic, but instead moves to Google Deep Mind

### 7. An Instinct agent stuck in a loop, and no support layer to reach at a $10B company — 6.0

*X · Dan Berte (@danberte) · Mon*

Dan Berte reports his Instinct agent is stuck in a loop and publicly asks the company's founder how to get help, with no support channel on offer, a reminder that cloud-hosted personal agents hold user data and context with little user control.

> Dan's take: my Instinct roblocked and the $10b company has no support layer to handle it, a nod to relying on companies who port user data to a cloud with minimum control disguised as convenience. a PA service has to be a local model affair.

*X · Nick Cammarata (@nickcammarata) · Thu*

Nick Cammarata, who started OpenAI's first automated interpretability project and once found about 2% of neurons legible, now says that with agentic tools and a closer look the vast majority are legible and their circuits clean, and expects ambitious interpretability to be solved by the time it is needed. Post passed 3M views.

> Dan's take: probably the most consequential development in alignment to date?

### 9. A $7 ESP32 lets an AI agent control a stock iPhone: it reads the AirPlay screen and taps back over USB, no laptop — 6.0

*X · Henry Yuan (@iamhenryyuan) · Wed*

Henry Yuan's updated build drops the Linux box: a $7 ESP32 captures the iPhone's AirPlay screen and sends taps back over USB, paired with an agent app, so an agent can automate any stock iPhone without jailbreak or Mac.

> Dan's take: ESP32 agentic controller for iPhone using car play is pretty cool and creative

*X · Luke Sophinos (@lukesophinos) · Mon*

Luke Sophinos's three rules for the next five years: build for people who will never prompt their own tools, price close to free and monetize through payments, capital, ads, or insurance, and rely on the remaining moats: proprietary data, network effects, owned audience, hardware, services, regulation.

> Dan's take: "build for people who won't build for themselves"

https://x.com/lukesophinos/status/2109668959934873735?s=20

*X · phil beisel (@pbeisel) · Thu*

Reacting to Greg Joswiak's line that Apple is not focused on AI for the lunatic fringe, phil beisel argues Apple has over-learned 'not first, just best', forgotten it must show up to play, and channels Jobs without understanding him.

> Dan's take: this just isn't a good sign for Apple

https://x.com/pbeisel/status/2110769458444947700?s=20
