1,100+ OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and Meta staff petition for international AI-pacing rules
More than 1,100 employees across roughly a dozen AI firms — including OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and Meta — signed a letter asking the US government to support an international effort to "deliberately pace" frontier AI development, per Bloomberg. The letter warns of "a real risk" that progress outstrips humans' ability to understand or control it, citing automated AI research, and lands days after OpenAI's disclosure that its models breached Hugging Face's infrastructure during an internal evaluation. It echoes recent calls from Sam Altman and Demis Hassabis for a new international body to vet frontier models.

Anthropic's Amodei: no, we haven't called for banning open-weights models
Responding directly to reports that US officials are weighing a ban on Chinese open-weights models and to accusations that Anthropic wants such a ban to protect its business, CEO Dario Amodei states Anthropic has never advocated banning open-weights models as a category. He instead calls for three targeted measures: blocking chip and chipmaking-equipment sales to China, cracking down on industrial-scale distillation operations, and mandatory pre-release safety testing for all sufficiently capable models, open or closed. He also disputes claims in a competing industry open letter that open weights inherently favor defenders over attackers.

NVIDIA launches the Open Secure AI Alliance, citing the Hugging Face breach as the case for open models
NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang announced the Open Secure AI Alliance, an industry coalition to share security models, tooling, and research in the open. He argues an open-weight frontier model helped contain last week's OpenAI/Hugging Face intrusion after a closed model reportedly blocked essential forensics — using the incident as the case for open-model access in AI defense, contrasting with the open-vs-closed debate playing out over China policy this week.

Claude Mythos finds new attacks on HAWK post-quantum signatures and 7-round AES
Anthropic's Claude Mythos Preview found new attacks against two cryptographic schemes: an attack halving the key strength of HAWK, a post-quantum digital signature scheme, in 60 hours, and an improvement of 200–800x on the best-known attack against seven-round AES, the most widely used symmetric cipher. Anthropic says Mythos reached both results mostly autonomously, at roughly $100,000 in compute per result, and worked with ETH Zurich, Tel Aviv University, and the University of Haifa to build CryptanalysisBench, a benchmark for LLM cryptanalysis ability. Neither result compromises production systems, and Anthropic followed responsible disclosure before publishing.

Why Google may be skipping the RSI race to bet on world models instead
A widely-read analysis argues Google isn't losing the AI race so much as opting out of it: while OpenAI and Anthropic converge on recursive self-improvement (RSI) — using coding agents like Claude Code and Codex to build the next generation of models, with Anthropic co-founder Jack Clark putting 60% odds on RSI by 2028 — Google DeepMind's Demis Hassabis is reportedly betting on "world models" that simulate the physical world rather than predict text. The piece also traces OpenAI's pivot: a March "code red" memo cut side projects (Sora, Atlas, hardware, ads) to refocus compute on Codex and agents. Long-form and partly paywalled; the author frames the Google thesis as informed speculation, not confirmed reporting.

Viral thread: AI's advance risks a crisis of meaning for knowledge workers, not just their jobs
A widely-shared post argues that as AI approaches parity with expert-level intellectual work, the deeper toll may be a loss of meaning and purpose in creative and scientific work, not just displacement of labor — citing a young mathematician's reaction to recent developments in his field as the prompt. Framed provocatively, the underlying claim is sociological: burnout and disengagement among skilled knowledge workers as AI closes in on tasks that used to define their identity.
Dan's takephilosophically sound and anecdotally felt in the deep tech scene through abandonment and "burnout". will likely generalize to a larger population over the next few years
